Microsoft bought Skype worth $8.5 billions

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Skypersoft was not a figment, Microsoft agreed to buy Skype isworth 8.5 billion U.S. dollars, reports the LA Times.

Microsoft's earlier purchase of the largest online advertising firm aQuantive is worth 6 billion dollars in 2007.

"Skype is a phenomenal product and loved by hundreds of millions of people around theworld," said Microsoft Chief Executive Steve Ballmer said in a statement.

"Division of Skype will continue to offer the latest products to millions of users around theworld," said Microsoft.

"For the long term, Skype will be integrated into a variety of Microsoft products to expandthe reach of Skype and accelerate growth akeselari way people communicate through online. Employees Skype will remain in their office, including Estonia, Czech Republic, Russia, Sweden, Britain, Luxembourg, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the UnitedStates, "Microsoft said.

Skype software is used by 170 million people every month through PCs, tablets, smart phones and even TV. Skype enables users at home to speak with a voice or video over the web for free.
